Abstract

Since in elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL), pressure and shear rate are very high, lubricant not only shows obvious non-Newtonian characteristics, but temperature may significantly rise. Therefore thermal EHL (TEHL) is discussed in this chapter. Although TEHL calculation is similar to EHL calculation, the viscosity and density of lubricant will simultaneously change in both the film thickness direction and the flow direction because temperature is considered. Therefore TEHL calculation is more complex. Calculation method, programs and examples of TEHL of non-Newtonian fluids are given in line contact and point contact.
