Abstract
Public Health Food Safety Laboratories (FSLs) play an important role in ensuring safety and quality of food through testing of foods/food products for adulterants/contaminants and for assessment of product quality and nutritive value. Implementation of labeling and other legal regulatory requirements and conduct of research and development in the area of “foods” is unthinkable without help from FSLs. Food safety is the backbone of many national health programs and is also an essential part of any national public health system, whereas FSLs are the backbone of any food safety control system. Food testing laboratories are essentially required to conduct an independent third-party testing to provide accurate and reliable information to the consumers, regulators, researchers, and industry about the quality of the food product in question. FSLs help by proving that the products produced by food business operators (FBOs) are safe and of requisite quality.
