Abstract

This chapter is devoted to optimal composite pressure vessels: the structures that demonstrate excellent weight efficiency of composites as structural materials in a most pronounced way. The high specific strength (with respect to density) of these materials, in conjunction with the automated filament winding process, enables the development of composite pressure vessels with good weight and cost efficiency. The results presented can be used to design composite pressure vessels having the form of a shell of revolution and the vessels that have cylindrical sections with end domes.
