Abstract
Alginate-based nanocomposites have been extensively studied and used because of their versatile behavior such as biocompatible, swelling ability, and cost-effective properties. The properties can be ameliorated through various modifications either in the hydrogel formation or by the type of nanomaterial incorporated into it. Many nanomaterials are found to be highly compatible with the alginate hydrogel availing to use comprehensive advantages with an excellent flexibility for different applications. This chapter is designed to provide insight information on the alginate nanocomposite hydrogels, with special focus on its application in drug delivery and tissue regeneration. In addition to an overview of the general properties for understanding the alginate biopolymer, its synthesis processes are detailed with the mechanism.
