Abstract

Biliary tract tumors are widely varied in origin and pathophysiology and inspire complex and challenging surgical management paradigms. This chapter will review the anatomy, pathology, and indications for surgical intervention in regard to benign and malignant gallbladder and biliary tumors. This chapter also explores debates surrounding surgical management of gallbladder cancer by stage, as well as management controversies for cholangiocarcinoma. Current strategies for adjuvant and molecular therapies are also reviewed.
