Comprehensive, standardized, accurate tissue sampling and pathological report are of great importance for the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis assessment of biliary tract tumor. Tissue sampling of biliary tract tumor is currently non-standardized, leading to inaccurate pathological report and tumor staging. Therefore, it is urgent to establish a standardized process of tissue sampling and pathological report regarding biliary tract tumor. This paper discusses three aspects regarding biliary tract tumor, including the importance of standardized tissue sampling and pathological report, suggestions about main points of intraoperative and postoperative tissue sampling, and main points and standards of pathological report.
