Abstract

Consultation is an indirect service delivery framework that sees a behavior analyst interacting primarily with a third party (i.e., the consultee) who is then responsible for working directly with the client. There is evidence to support a problem-solving model of consultation as effective in addressing a variety of client concerns through a range of consultees (e.g., caregivers, teachers, other professionals). Teleconsultation is the transfer of this model to a virtual setting using telehealth technology to eliminate the need for in-person interactions and allowing behavior analysts to extend the reach of their services. The purpose of this chapter is to define teleconsultation, review the evidence supporting problem-solving teleconsultation, provide readers with concrete practical recommendations, and outline considerations for ethical practice. The chapter concludes by describing future directions for teleconsultation research and practice.
