Abstract

Microbes play key roles in the Earth’s biogeochemical cycles. This chapter examines the role of microbes in the carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus cycles. It has also examined the nature of the metabolic profiles (and their genomic basis) within the key organisms involved in these cycles. Finally it has examined how industrial pollution (particularly that involving nanomaterials) could be potentially disruptive to aspects of these cycles.
