Abstract

Academic library assessment and evaluation is a set of comprehensive processes to measure an academic library's contributions and values for an academic institutional accreditation, effectiveness, excellence in teaching and learning, improvements, student learning outcomes, and so on in service-oriented and student-centered academic learning environments. The technology shift driven by the Internet and the World Wide Web has made academic library administrators, executives, and librarians focus more closely on effective ways of adapting their resources and services against the risks of obsolescence. To help new librarians understand library assessment and evaluation in academic learning environments, this chapter explores the basic metrics, plans, purposes, and tools applicable for academic library assessment and evaluations.
