Abstract

The prevalence of anisometropia is described, and the problems it can cause in terms of unwanted prismatic effects and aniseikonia. These effects are discussed under the headings of diagnosis, investigation, evaluation, and management. Eikonometers are summarised. Types of aniseikonia are reviewed, and the effects of astigmatism and size lenses considered. It is noted that contact lenses or refractive surgery can be an effective intervention for these problems. In milder cases, interventions include minimising back vertex distance and careful choice of spectacle lens form and material.
