Abstract
Affinity separation technology is based on the selective and reversible binding of a target molecule and a ligand. In this chapter, we will present an overview of the recent advances, challenges and opportunities in the development of affinity separation techniques when the affinity ligand is immobilized in solid support, fiber or surface, such as membranes, fibers, monoliths, cryogels, and molecularly imprinted polymers. Special attention is devoted to recent and relevant applications in bioseparation, clinical apheresis, analytical areas and scientific studies. At the end of the chapter, a practical approach section is presented to guide the reader to choose the best method among those described, as well as the typical experimental conditions used.
