Abstract
Chemical weapon categories include nerve agents, blister agents, nettle agents, blood agents, choking agents, vomiting agents, riot control agents, and incapacitating agents. Nerve agents inhibit acetylcholinesterase which leads to a buildup of acetylcholine and results in a cholinergic syndrome with muscarinic and nicotinic overstimulation. Nerve agents are treated with atropine, decontamination, oximes, and benzodiazepines. Acute cyanide toxicity can be rapidly fatal, while chlorine gas can cause delayed mucous membrane irritation and respiratory distress.
