Abstract
Environmental protection and agro-ecological restoration is now the foremost importance in the prosperity of human being. Annually, the enhancing rate of pollution and generated wastes are causing deleterious effects all over the world that must be degraded in terms of harmless products as well as the concept of a sustainable environment can also be employed through the bioconversion of wastes into other useful resources without harming and/or depleting the natural ecosystem. Microbes have inherent quality with enzymatic machinery to degrade the waste into harmless simplest molecules through the bioremediation process. So, the use of microorganisms is the most effective method to treat different wastes, in addition to being an eco-friendly, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable method. In this order, Trichoderma is the most promising fungi. This chapter aims to give an overview of several reporting on Trichoderma in the field of bioremediation and environmental sustainability. Several beneficial strains and its gene are reported to mitigate heavy metal, crude oil, and pesticide-contaminated soil.
