Abstract
Nanomedicine offers unique advantages in the treatment of human cancers. Nanomedicine has opened up new therapeutic avenues that can be used to attack viral diseases and improve treatment success rates. Nucleic acid medicines utilize nucleic acid, such as DNA and RNA (which control genetic information), as drugs. Nucleic acid medicine is a next-generation drug discovery technology with a completely different mechanism of action than traditional pharmaceutical products. We discuss the different types of nucleic acid medicines in this chapter. Advances in nanomedicine depend on the development of novel nanocarriers and technologies for drug delivery. However, much remains to be learned in the emerging field of nanomedicine. We consider the application of nanotechnology and nanomedicine in the treatment of cancer. Cancer nanomedicine development has traditionally focused on improving the delivery and efficacy of cytotoxic agents into tumors. The development of immune-modulatory nanomedicine for cancer immunotherapy applications is also considered. The impact of green and environmentally safe chemistry on the field of nanotechnology-driven drug delivery is termed green nanomedicine.
