Abstract
In recent years, increased attention has been paid to conventional chemical processes, as they represent a latent danger for the environment and the welfare of communities in the short, medium, and long term. As an alternative, eco-sustainable principles and strategies have emerged to facilitate chemical transformation using “greener” processes. In this chapter, several examples of polymerization carried out using the principles of green chemistry are introduced. Although the 12 principles of green chemistry are applied, some synthesis processes remain extensive and laborious, but continuous advances have been developed in synthetic chemistry which allow the projection that, in a short time, the design of synthetic systems will evolve into new strategies including click chemistry, multicomponent synthesis, and microwave-assisted processes, for example. The chapter ends with a description of some investigations carried out using click reactions to obtain eco-friendly polymers. This chapter is focused on chemical transformations using the green chemistry, click chemistry, and eco-sustainable development approaches.
