Abstract

Luminescence is a science closely related to spectroscopy, which is the study of the general laws of absorption and emission of radiation by matter. A discussion on luminescence, its mechanism, types, and applications of luminescence are included in the chapter. Further different techniques: ionization chamber dosimetry, film dosimetry, luminescence dosimetry including thermoluminescence dosimetry, optically stimulated luminescence dosimetry, mechanoluminescence dosimetry, lyoluminescence dosimetry, semiconductor dosimetry, plastic dosimetry with solid-state nuclear track detector, chemical dosimetry, and polymer gel dosimetry to measure the radiations are also outlined.
