Abstract

Hydrocarbon phase behavior is an integral and important part of petroleum engineering. Reservoir and production engineers rely on phase behavior and pressure-volume-temperature for reserves, calculations, and surface facilities design. This chapter provides the basic principles of hydrocarbon phase behavior and reviews the basic classifications of hydrocarbon systems through the use of phase diagrams.
