Abstract

This chapter discusses an application technology pertaining to dyes for digital printing and photography. Ink jet printing is a technology that has evolved considerably over the last 10 to 15 years. It is used in the work place, in photographic imaging, in producing large color posters, and in other industrial applications such as marking, coding, and addressing of packaging materials. Monochrome printers have now given a way to full color machines, which are inexpensive to buy and operate. The printers are relatively simple and require low maintenance, making them ideally suited for the home market, as well as for office. Hardware developments and step-change improvements in dyes, inks, and media allowed ink jet printing to enter new market segments, where it provides viable and advantageous alternative to many older established technologies.
