Abstract
Mycorrhizal fungi (MF) can enhance the growth and nutrient absorption of mycorrhizal plants and increase the ability of plants to resist biotic and abiotic stresses by regulating some metabolisms of stress-related enzyme, phytohormones, and so on. This chapter summarizes various applications of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and ectomycorrhizal fungi (ECMF) in agriculture and forestry under field conditions, respectively. This chapter reviewed (1) distribution of MF in agricultural and forest area, (2) AMF in crop nutrition and yield, (3) ECM in forest tree nutrition, (4) AMF in crops coping with abiotic and biotic stresses, (5) MF in forest seedlings survival rate and growth, and (6) MF in forest trees coping with abiotic and biotic stresses. In future, the application of MF will play an important role in crop production and afforestation. The different MF, especially AMF and ECMF, in target host species, may exhibit different mycorrhizal efficiency due to MF specificity and host plant selectivity. Furthermore, for not disturbing the MF colonization in target host crops or trees, field management (especially soil nutrient level) should be carried out with caution.
