Chapitre III. Les manuscrits des traductions françaises du De regimine principum de Gilles de Rome

Abstract

In his article published in 1888 in Volume XXX of the Literary History of France, Felix Lajard was the first to propose a list of manuscripts including French translation of the Treaty of Giles of Rome. Even if major part of the forty two identified manuscripts that contain French translation of Treaty of Giles of Rome do not have date, we can still try to locate the time of their production. Formats (width and height of the manuscript) vary widely. It is doubtful, however, that these manuscripts have also been appreciated for their content. The vast-majority of the identified manuscripts does not contain reading marks, leaving us therefore to think that the readers did not generally make a very thorough study from the text of Giles of Rome.
