Abstract

Objective To observe the features of the serum low molecular weight proteome in pateints subjected to posttraumatic sepsis. Methods Serum proteomic spectra were generated by matrixassisted laser desorption/ionization time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) technology.Serum samples of 24 healthy controls,24 traumatic patients and 12 posttraumatic sepsis patients were analyzed by comparing the level of low molecular weight proteins. And hierarchical cluster analysis was used to reveal the group characteristics in the process of the pathogenesis of posttraumatic sepsis by continuous observation of the serum level of low molecular weight proteins. And hierarchical cluster analysis was used to reveal the group characteristics in the process of the pathogenesis of posttraumatic spesis by continuous boservation of the serum level of low molecular weight proteome. Results Comparing peak intensities of serum from traumatic patients, posttraumatic sepsis patients with those from healthy controls, mean intensity differed significantly for 28 peaks. And there is a clear difference in the serum low molecular weight proteome profiling of patients between different stages of sepsis development. Conclusions The spectrum of the fluctuations in the serum low molecular weight proteome can be used for earlier diagnosis of sepsis, and severity of sepsis can be predicted by observing the changes of serum low molecular weight proteome profiling.
