Abstract

This paper outlines the challenges associated to HVDC transmission system for offshore wind power plants (OWPPs). Moreover, two technical solutions are presented in this paper, i.e. HVDC Voltage Source Converter (VSC), and HVDC Line Commutated Converter (LCC). The overall goal of this project is to compare and analyse the losses for each technology depending on size and distance. Challenges hereto include Frequency control, Reactive power and HVDC, Inverter-side Communication Failure. However, the paper describes in detail regarding reliability and the best possible explanations for power transmission. Finally, the outcome of the project is to validate aggregated models of HVDC system methodologies, fault identification, disturbances and system stability.
