Abstract

Performance of Mg2+ co-doped GAGG(Ce), hereafter called as cerium-doped gadolinium fine aluminum gallate, GFAG(Ce), in gamma-ray spectrometry has been investigated. The study of two samples of 10 × 10 × 5 mm3 GFAG(Ce) crystals covers the tests of emission spectra, light output, non-proportionality, energy resolution, time resolution, and decay time of light pulses. The results obtained with the GFAG(Ce) were compared to the scintillators, such as GAGG(Ce), LSO(Ce), NaI(Tl), or LuAG(Pr). The measured light yield for tested GFAG(Ce) samples is 25000–27000 ph/MeV, with the energy resolution for 662 keV gamma-rays from 137Cs source of about 7%.
