Abstract

Central versus Regional: Reading the Concept of Halal Tourism in Batu City.The Muslim population in the world is currently increasing. This increase provides space for industry players to improve the quality of halal products created because Muslims today have paid attention to the quality of the products chosen as a form of their selfsatisfaction. Tourism is one of the industries that has begun to develop services for Muslims. In recent decades, the concept of halal tourism has emerged. One of the countries that implement halal tourism is Indonesia. In its implementation, Indonesia has won various awards. Batu City, which is included in the list of leading halal tourism in Indonesia, also makes adjustments in the implementation of halal tourism. In this case, Islam occupies the main position. Although the people of Batu City are predominantly Muslim, the condition of multiculturalism is a challenge in this implementation. There is one agency, namely Forum Kerukunan Umat Beragama which manages inter-religious harmony by creating a condition without discrimination. This paper aims to reveal the concept of halal tourism that is applied in Batu City in the multiculturalism that occurs and to review the management of harmony carried out by the Batu City FKUB in creating harmony. The concept of black box and autonomous multiculturalism is used in revealing halal tourism in Batu City. This research is qualitative by using ethnographic methods in extracting the data.
