Abstract

This article investigates the delicate interaction between censorship and freedom of expression, focusing on a critical analysis of Bill 2630/2020, popularly known as PL das Fake News. The main points of the bill are explored, which aims to regulate the use of the internet and combat the spread of false information and hate speech on social networks. During the study, we examined the arguments for and against PL 2630/2020, considering the challenges and dilemmas that involve the search for a balance between protecting society against harmful fake news and preserving freedom of expression in the digital sphere. The analysis covers the legal, ethical and political aspects of the bill, as well as concerns regarding privacy and mass surveillance. Through a detailed literature review and documentary analysis, this article seeks to offer a comprehensive view of the implications of PL 2630/2020 for Brazilian society and the global scenario in relation to freedom of expression and combating disinformation. By addressing the complexity of censorship and freedom of expression in the context of the bill, this study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of the issues involved and provide valuable insights into the balance between the protection of society and individual rights in the digital age.
