Abstract

The gallbladder is a sac-like structure attached to the posterior surface of the liver. It is a storage vessel for bile produced by the liver. Bile is released to help in the digestion of lipids. Gallstones may form in the gallbladder under the right conditions and are asymptomatic until they cause episodes of biliary colic. Gallstones may further exacerbate the disease processes of cholecystitis, pancreatitis, and potentially cancer. This case reports regarding a 45-year-old woman with a bout of biliary colic diagnosed as gallstone pancreatitis.
