Abstract

Serbia, emerging market country, is in middle phase of constitution of market economy, capital market and stock exchange, privatization, corporate governance etc. This paper will give review and analyses of the process of development of capital market in Serbia, having in mind impact of process of privatization as well as other non-political problems. Main point to be considered and questioned is that Serbia is in delay in the process of transition. Taking a look on results we have now, one could say that it is not bad at all. But having in mind that Serbia had first stock exchange in this part of Europe in 19th century, developed financial market before World War II and started renewed life of capital market in 1989, in that case, things are moving way too slow. Since main aspects of capital market development in Serbia would be given in this paper, process of privatization would be examined too. Process of privatization has created great possibilities but also great problems. Especially interesting is development of stock market and stock exchange under the process of privatization. Anyhow, privatization has moved practice in Serbia towards practice of developed economies of the world and has created possibilities that were just under the academic review so far.
