Abstract

This chapter describes the capacitance matrix methods (CMM). The CMM allow for the extension of the techniques to arbitrary bounded regions. The solution is obtained as a low rank modification of the solution on a rectangle in which the arbitrary region is imbedded. Extensive numerical experiments have been carried out on different computers ranging from CDC 7600 to DEC 10. The presentation is limited to problems with no discretization error; however, experiments with other smooth solutions and with solutions generated randomly show only minor differences in the rate of convergence.
