Abstract

Introduction. Non-compliance with fluid restriction in the patient receiving haemodialysis poses significant health and management problems. No reliable intervention has been found to increase compliance rates in this group. We present raw data of a small case series using cognitive behavioural interventions to promote adherence. Method. Five subjects were offered six sessions of cognitive behavioural interventions. Measurements were taken pretreatment posttreatment and at 3-month follow-up. Results. Results show some improvement on the primary outcome measure in subjects who remained over the level of weight gain advised pretreatment and attended sessions. Conclusion. Study limitations preclude firm conclusion from this data. The cases presented here indicate further evaluation of this approach is warranted.
