Abstract

The paper is concerned with improvement of the methods of calculating kinetic parameters of thermal decomposition of polymers using results of dynamic thermogravimetry. It was shown that, in the kinetic equation of the rate of decomposition, the mass of the sample can be used directly, the dimensional accuracy of the equation being maintained. Methods were proposed for calculating all three kinetic parameters of decomposition by a thermogram using the method of least squares. A procedure was developed which enables kinetic parameters of partially overlapping processes to be calculated by one thermogram for the “multi-stage” course of the thermogravimetric curve. The application of the methods proposed is illustrated by examples of calculating “single” and “two stage” processes of thermal breakdown of PTFE and branched PE, respectively.
