Abstract

Abstract Burkholderia cepacia is a gram-negative bacillus leading to pneumonia with poor prognosis and usually seen in patients with immune suppression or with structural lung disease. B. cepacia infection is rarely reported in immune competent children. This is the first case of community-acquired B. cepacia infection presenting as hemorrhagic pericarditis and pyothorax in an otherwise healthy child.
