Abstract

The intention of this paper is not to discuss bereavement in general terms, but rather to focus upon the specific needs of older people. In particular, the paper will describe a bereavement support project designed to identify and work with older people who may be at risk of a poor bereavement outcome. Specific attention will be given to those who have been identified as carers of a chronically ill dependant, and those who have been suddenly or unexpectedly bereaved. A description is given of the Good Grief Project which is one of the 1995 Queen’s Nursing Institute Innovation Awards.
