Abstract

Bending fatigue damage behaviors of wire ropes in the hoisting system were presented in this study. A self-made bending fatigue test apparatus with multiple pulleys was introduced. The friction coefficients between wire ropes and pulleys were calculated by Euler formula. The profiles and morphology of wear scars in different segments were observed. The number of broken wires in different segments was calculated using manual dismantle strand. The results show that the friction coefficients between wire ropes and pulleys decrease from fast line end to dead line end. The dimensions of wear scars on steel wires in different segments is roughly normal distribution. The broken wires are mainly concentrated in the middle segments of wire ropes.
