Abstract

The development of new scales to characterize and quantify the noncognitive features of dementing illness has greatly facilitated advances in our understanding and ability to treat Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, and Parkinson’s dementia. This review recalls the history of the development of four of these scales, and summarizes some of the recent published literature on the noncognitive aspects of dementia.
