Abstract
Reducing fossil fuels consumption while producing CO2-neutral sugar is becoming increasingly important due to the trend towards decarbonization. In addition to using new technologies, this necessitates an adaptation of the energy concepts in the sugar process. The goal of minimising CO2 emissions from the sugar process requires going beyond conventional energy-saving measures. The use of electrical energy for mechanical vapour recompression in the evaporation plant and crystallization as well as heat pumps are forward-looking technologies in this respect.
