Abstract

Abstract Two field studies were established near Twin Falls, Idaho. At each location three systemic insecticides and a check were replicated three times in 0.6 acre plots. The beans were planted Jun 12-15 and sidedressed Jul 10. The chemicals were applied in a narrow band 4” to the water side of the bean row and 3-4” deep. Soil type was Portneuf silt loam. Arthropods were sampled weekly by taking 300 sweeps per plot or brushing 20 trifoliates per plot. Twenty blooms per plot were shaken over paper to count thrips. Alate pea aphids were counted because of their potential role as vectors of mosaic virus as they leave cut alfalfa fields. Beneficial insects were also counted in the sweep samples. Nabis sp., Orius sp., and Geocoris sp. were the major species encountered.
