Abstract
Batch conditioning of screened and cooled refined sugar with very low flow rates of drying air was evaluated with 6 h experiments in a 5 t silo. Drying air was dehumidified with hollow fibre membranes able to deliver dry air at near zero relative humidity. The sugar’s water content reduction achieved was in the expected range, and at a lower cost than traditional methods.
