Abstract
The paper describes measurements of the widths of the Balmer lines Hα, Hβ and Hγ in D.C. hydrogen arcs (1-2 atmospheres pressure), for currents up to 10 amp. The results are used to deduce ion concentrations, and their bearing on the physical properties of the discharges is discussed.
