Abstract

How do you work in a nursery with babies at different paces? What knowledge is needed to teach babies? How do you guarantee personal care in collective spaces? Based on my experiences as a teacher trainer in Early Childhood Education, with regard to (re)organising feeding and nappy changing times, this article aims to discuss theoretical and methodological aspects of continuing education in the light of Lee S. Shulman and Donald Wood Winnicott. These authors were chosen because they contribute to learning to teach, teaching cases, case studies and the relationship between babies and adults. Our objectives lie in the attitude of adults towards babies and reflections on how the institution works, as well as the process of subjectivation in the relationship with childcare professionals. As a result of the dialogue on personal care, based on teaching knowledge, it was possible to reorganise feeding times and the search for quality when changing nappies, because once babies understand the relationships established, this is the beginning of humanisation and the construction of their subjectivity.
