Abstract
Various atomic spectrometric detectors have been used in gas chromatography (GC) for widespread analytical applications. Their excellent characteristics including high sensitivity and selectivity, low limits of detection (LODs), and the possibility of simultaneous multi-element detection for metallic and non-metallic species make them ideal detectors as a unique solution for many analytical problems. Different types of atomic spectrometric detectors coupled to GC, including those based on atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS), plasma atomic emission spectrometry/mass spectrometry (AES/MS), are discussed in this article, primarily in terms of operational characteristics, analytical performance and practical applications.
