Abstract

(Abstracted from JAMA 2018;319(12):1239–1247) In the decade from 2004 to 2014, hospital-based obstetric services in rural US counties declined from 55% to 46%. Loss of hospital-based obstetric care may worsen existing maternal and child health challenges, prolonging travel distances and times and affecting access to peripartum care.
