Abstract

The current study analyzes aspects of the artisanal activity performed by the “paneleiras de Goiabeiras” in Vitoria City, Espirito Santo State. These aspects are highlighted in the strategizing at Espirito Santo State Tourism Bureau when it comes to the definition of public tourism policies. The study performs a theoretical analysis to articulate topics such as the strategy as a practice, tourism, public policies and artisanal activities. The data were collected through documents and interviews done with eight members of the State Tourism Bureau and with twenty “paneleiras de Goiabeiras”, and processed through thematic content analysis. The research showed a strategizing focused on turning the "clay pots" an icon of the local culture and of the “capixaba” tourism and on propagating it to other States.
