Abstract
This paper deals with the approximate determination of the fundamental vibration frequency of a uniform cantilever beam with any number of mounted masses and restraining springs at various locations along the length of the beam. Numerical results are obtained by using a finite element technique. The beam has a uniform rectangular cross-section and the constraint is a translational spring. A method known as the equivalent center weight method forms the basis of this investigation. Design charts have been established for equivalent factors for both the mounted masses and springs. These charts are useful for quick determination of the natural frequency of a cantilever beam with masses and springs at any arbitrary locations.
