Abstract
Road safety directly depends on the quality of roads. And despite the constant increase in the length of roads, monitoring of their quality is still carried out by the efforts of employees of road maintenance organizations. Such an approach, as well as the high cost of evaluation work, lead to untimely resolution of the identified problems. Moreover, the intensity of traffic on the roads, as well as the speed of vehicles and their total mass, are steadily increasing. That is why solutions to automate this process are being actively researched and implemented in practice. This paper presents an original approach to monitoring the quality of road surface, the key difference of which is the construction of a monitoring system based on a modern smartphone that has a number of significant sensors, the ability to take high-resolution photos and videos, impressive computing capabilities, and the presence of high-speed data transfer interfaces.
