Abstract
In this article, we describe how our design team used front-end analysis to identify the training needs, gather design precedents, conduct a learner analysis study, and apply the insights in designing a data management course for biomedical researchers. In-person and online versions of the course were developed and implemented with cohorts of a research training and mentorship program for biomedical researchers. The course development project adds to the emerging literature base of design precedents for instruction on research data management guided by the FAIR principles of findability, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability of research data.
