Abstract

In this paper techniques applying a fluidized bed furnace for the neutral hardening of carbon and medium alloy tools are described, the application being based on a production unit handling a wide range of sizes. Versatility of the unit and ease of control are also discussed. Carburizing and carbonitriding of tools and components are proven techniques and control of case depth, carbon potential, and measurement of carbon gradients are discussed in detail.
