Abstract
This chapter describes the practical aspects when performing heat treatment on tool steels. The physical metallurgy and phase transformation of Fe–C system are presented for helping the understanding of fundamentals of heat treatments. Austenitization, quenching, and tempering with focus on the secondary hardening are detailed and the most important practical aspects of the heat treatment of tool steels are covered and readers are given important tips to be considered before performing a hardening treatment on this grade of steel. Several cases are presented in detail.
