Abstract

Application of behavioural transformations is a common practice during embedded system (ES) design. These transformations have one or more impact out of three important cost metrics: Area, performance, and power dissipation of the resulting implementation. A survey of the state-of-the-art behavioural transformation techniques and their applications in performing several optimizations in ES is presented in the paper. Commonly used transformations techniques are discussed first. A broad overview of applications of each of these behavioural transformations is then covered. The paper is concluded with discussion on some future directions of research in this area.
