Application of PDCA cycle in the CSSD

Abstract

Objective To explore the application of PDCA cycle in the CSSD. Methods Staff in the CSSD of the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University were investigated and PDCA cycle was applied in the department from November 2014. Work efficiency and the satisfactory degree of each department to the disinfection and supply were compared before (May to October 2014) and after (November 2014 to April 2015) the PDCA cycle application. Results Qualification rate of disinfectant, surgical instruments disinfection and packaging and sterilized things were higher after the PDCA cycle application than those before the application. The differences were statistically significant (P<0.05); Satisfactory degree of internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology and operating room were increased after the PDCA cycle application, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions Application of PDCA cycle in CSSD could effectively improve the work quality of staff and satisfaction of other departments to the CSSD.
