Abstract

Objective To explore the effects of operating room nursing pathway in patients receiving laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) . Methods Totally 96 patients receiving LC in the Operating Room of Nanfang Hospital from October 2016 to April 2017 were selected and equally randomized into observation group (n=48) and control group (n=48) according to the order of admittance. Patients in the control group received conventional nursing, while patients in the observation group received operating room nursing according to operating room nursing pathway on this basis. Operation, postoperative recovery (time of operation, intraoperative bleeding, time of gastrointestinal function recovery and length of hospital stay) , incidence of complications, incidence of operating room safety hazard and patients' satisfaction with nursing were compared between the two groups. Results Compared with the control group, shorter time of operation, less intraoperative bleeding, earlier recovery of gastrointestinal function and shorter length of hospital stay were found in the observation group (P<0.05) . Incidence of postoperative complications in the observation group was lower at 4.17% compared to 16.67% in the control group (P<0.05) . No operating room safety hazard was found in the observation group, while the incidence in the control group was 12.50%, showing a significant difference (P<0.05) . Patients' satisfaction with nursing in the observation group was higher at 93.75% compared to 75.00% in the control group (P<0.05) . Conclusions Operating room nursing pathway enables LC to run smoothly, reduces the incidence of postoperative complications, enhance surgical patient safety management, curtail operating room safety hazard, and improve patients' satisfaction with nursing service. Key words: Operating room nursing; Laparoscopic cholecystectomy; Patient safety management; Nursing pathway
